Send Some Christmas Cheer To Deployed Troops
November 10, 2008
Even though it’s early November, it’s not too early to begin thinking about sending some Christmas Cheer to our Troops who are deployed in Iraq and Afghanistan. Each year the postal service sets the cut off dates to ensure that mail reaches our Troops who are in combat zones for early December, so please start thinking about getting Christmas cheer in the mail early for our Troops.
If you’re not sure what to send, there is a group who can help you out with that, called Operation Christmas Tree. Operation Christmas Tree was started by James and Betty Ward when their daughter was deployed to Iraq. They sent her a Christmas tree complete with decorations. Because a standard tree is difficult to ship and can cost a lot to send to Iraq or Afghanistan, they came up with the idea of sending 2 foot trees that are fully decorated and lighted to as many deployed Troops as possible. Thus Operation Christmas Tree was born. Because the project was such a huge success that first year, the Ward’s have made it a yearly project, until we no longer have Troops deployed in combat zones. This year, the Ward’s have some exciting news to share, that will make it possible to send Christmas Trees to even more Troops.
Jason Brown of the Baltimore Ravens has come on board to support Support Military Heroes the Home of Operation Christmas Tree. We are very grateful for his support and look forward to working with him in the future. With Jason’s help we are sure that we will be able to make this project a huge success. It is the kindness and support of people like Jason brown that make this project possible.
The cost of a tree including lights, decorations, and shipping is $25. On our site we have provided a link for donations.
You can donate $25 to provide one tree or you can donate any amount that you choose. All donations, regardless of amount, are greatly appreciated. This will help make the holiday season brighter for those who are away from home serving our country.
If you’d like to take part in this project, and make the Christmas holidays brighter for our brave Troops serving in a combat zone, please follow the link below to reach the donation form on the Operation Christmas Tree site.
