Presenting: The New ASM

June 17, 2008

I would like to personally welcome you to the new ASM!  I am quite pleased with the final outcome of this new version.  I believe this is ASM Version 4.0.  Throughout the last 2+ years, ASM has seen many changes and revisions.

Every time the site is changed, I attempt to asses our long term goals.  Many times these long term goals include improvements on things we are currently doing, for example: books reviews and audio/video galleries.  In the past we have been offering these items to you, however, we have never had a system in place to display them in a organized manner.  In the near future ASM will feature a full gallery of audio and video, displayed in an organized manner.  Our book reviews will not only feature full articles, but also the full book information and the ability to purchase the book directly through ASM.

These are just a couple of the improvements planned, I would hate to spoil all of the surprises.  We will continue to work diligently to provide you with a feature rich, content driven web site.  Our goal has always been to provide relevant and accurate articles, we have not and will not in the future lose sight of this goal.  While many military blogs and web sites come and go, A Soldier’s Mind is here to stay and is dedicated to you, our reader.

I have already received some feedback regarding our new look.  I would like to invite all of our readers to share their opinions about the new look and feel.  As many of you know, every time ASM goes through a period of change I listen to your feedback.  I have always taken all feedback into consideration and many of the changes on ASM are because of the feedback of our readers.  If you would rather not leave your feedback via a comment, I invite you to use the new contact system.  All correspondence through the contact form comes directly to me and will be held in strict confidence.  I look forward to your comments, enjoy!

New Format

June 6, 2008

As everyone can easily see, ASM has adopted a new layout. Right now it is a bit of a work in progress. Since the site was hacked, a large majority of our files were corrupted. It is always ideal to work on improvements off line and unveil them in a completed state. However, this is not quite possible since our old layout was corrupted and since my main computer is currently in storage there is no backup. Read more

Site problems…

June 4, 2008

Well, I have finally gotten settled in here in Germany.  I checked the website last night and was unable to access it at all.  After poking around for a bit I realized ASM had been hacked.  After the site was hacked, a virus was also linked to the site.  This has now caused us to be blacklisted by Google.

I am finally gotten the site running again.  As you can see, the old page design was completely destroyed and too much of the code was full of malicious lines.  So, I figured now was as good as any to find a new design.  Right now the site is very basic and many of the features you may have come accustomed to are not available yet.  I am working very hard to get everything back online.  I apologize for the inconvenience.

ASM is back!

March 5, 2008

Woops!  I guess that’s what happens when you are so busy with school you forget to renew your account with the host.  The entire site goes down.  Sorry about the inconvenience and rest assured I won’t let that happen again.

Introducing Our Newest Author, SPC Brandon Begley

January 18, 2008

Those of you who have followed our stories here at A Soldier’s Mind, have read the stories I’ve written about SPC Brandon Begley and the fantastic Sonata of War and Peace he composed and performed in response to the death of fellow Soldiers when he was deployed to Afghanistan last year. It is my greatest pleasure to introduce Brandon as our newest author here at A Soldier’s Mind. Brandon will also be blogging over at as well. Please join me in extending a warm welcome to Brandon. Brandon is currently preparing to deploy with his unit to Iraq, so I look forward to his posts about his experiences during his deployment. Welcome Aboard Brandon!

Advertising Opportunities…

December 6, 2007

Over the last few months I have received many inquiries into advertising on ASM. The main advertising avenue on ASM is through Blog Ads. However, Blog Ads restricts the layout and type of ad that you may use. We will now be offering new advertising options, these will be managed by ASM and not an outside advertising source. We will be offering two options for banner advertisements, the first is a 120×240 pixel tower priced at $10/month. The second option will be 120×60 pixel buttons priced at $5/month. I have reduced all of ASM’s advertising prices for the holidays, so act fast to reserve your ad at these low prices. If you have any questions or would like to purchase advertising space, please .

Upgrades, outages…

December 4, 2007

I just wanted to apologize for the “brief” downtime you may have experienced. We just upgraded to the newest version of Word Press. Unfortunately, I was so far behind in maintenance and upgrade that the entire site died. All should be good now, if you notice any errors or problems please leave a comment and I’ll get them fixed immediately.

Anthony and I would like to take a moment to welcome aboard a new author at A Soldier’s Mind. Most of you here know him as SealPatriot. SealPatriot is currently a college student, with plans to join the military after graduation. As he’s said many times here, his ultimate goal is to become one of the US Military’s elite warriors…. a Navy Seal. Welcome aboard Ryan! We’re looking forward to reading your posts. I’m sure they’ll be great!

Introducing…

May 3, 2007

I’d like to take a moment to introduce one of ASM’s newest authors, Kari.  She is a former Marine, a mother, a wife, and an American.  Everyone please take a moment to welcome her to ASM.

We have couple more new authors who will be posting randomly.  I will introduce them to you all as they make their first posts.  I know my memory is short and if I introduced everyone at once I’d forget within minutes.
