Support Us by Soldier Hard

July 14, 2007

One of the artists who is featured on To The Fallen Records: Volume I, is Soldier Hard. Soldier Hard is an active duty soldier, a Sergeant in the US Army, currently stationed at Fort Bliss, Tx. He’s a 19K or Armor Crewman on M1-M2 tanks, so he’s seen the best and the worse of combat during his tour in Iraq. Music has always been a part of Soldier Hard’s life, an outlet for him to express his thoughts and feelings. That didn’t change when he deployed to Iraq, where he continued to write and record music.

Soldier Hard has written and released 3 CD’s to date, with his 4th CD, his deployment CD due to go to the producers in just a few days. I asked Soldier Hard about his song, Walk With Me, which was featured in the story about The The Fallen Records. Soldier Hard said that when he was writing that song, he was hoping to give civilians an idea of what it was like for the troops, as they were preparing to go out on a mission. His hopes were to give them an idea of the mental preparation that the Troops went through, to ensure that they were ready to face whatever they had to on that mission. He had written 2 verses of the song before going on a mission. Upon returning that day, after losing one of his soldiers to a bomb, who happened to be one of his friends, he was angry. His anger is evident in the third verse of the song. To Soldier Hard, music is a form of stress relief for him, an outlet.

“Music has always been a part of my life. The best way for me to deal with stuff is through music,” Soldier Hard told me during our phone conversation.

I was interested in how Soldier Hard found To The Fallen Records and how his music ended up being on their first release. He shared that he had put Walk With Me up on his page and had intended for it to be featured on his deployment album. When To The Fallen Records began contacting military artists, with the idea of a military only record label, he jumped at the chance and sent them a copy of Walk With Me. He said that he quickly heard back from Sean and Sidney who said that they HAD to have his song for the album. Thus began his collaboration with To The Fallen Records. Soldier Hard feels that To the Fallen Records is a great resource for musically inclined Troops, to get their music out there in the public, so that people can hear directly from the military and perhaps be able to get an idea what the Troops are experiencing and the feelings that go along with those experiences.

Soldier Hard and I discussed the role of the media in this war and how the citizens back home, aren’t always given the full picture of what’s occurring in Iraq or Afghanistan through those media sources. I asked Soldier Hard what message he would hope to convey to American citizens through his music and what he hoped his fellow soldiers would get from listening to his music.

“I just want for them to understand what the troops go through. The feelings and experiences they have and how they affect them,” he said.

“For the Troops, it hits home to a lot of them. Use it to motivate yourself. Be proud of what you’re doing.”

Soldier Hard is currently working on his Deployment CD, which is his 4th and it should be ready to go to the producers shortly. It should be ready for release in a couple of months. Watch his page for updated news on the new CD. There was one video on his My Space page really stood out to me and Soldier Hard has given me permission to share it here with our viewers. This video, to the song, Support Us was filmed at the Fort Bliss National Cemetary on Memorial Day 2007. The message in this song and video is a very powerful testament to our Troops and their thoughts and feelings about how they hope more than anything else that their fellow American citizens support them. Listen carefully to the words, I know it hit home for me, just how important what we’re doing here is, to our Troops. I think, after listening to this song, you’ll agree with me when I say that it’s going to be a hit.

Soldier Hard gave me a bit of background on his military career. He shared that he had been in the Army for 8 years when he got out. He stayed out for 3 1/2 years. Following 9/11, Soldier Hard rejoined the Army, his whole reason being that he wanted to deploy and serve his Country during its time of need. Right now, his plans are to get out of the Army when he contract expires in 2009 and pursue a career with the Department of Corrections in his home state of California. Throughout his military career, he’s had both good and bad experiences. While deployments have taken a toll on certain aspects of his life, he doesn’t regret for one minute that he enlisted in the Army and he has served his Country proudly.

I asked Soldier Hard what parting thoughts he would like to share with our readers. This is what he had to say:

“To those who don’t support the war, you don’t have to, we fight so your have that right, BUT support us! All those little things are our ‘little taste of heaven!’”

Please take the time to visit add him to your friends list and support his music by purchasing his CD’s. I think you’ll be pleased that you did and as impressed with this amazing and talented soldier as I am.
